Harry S. Truman

Harry S. Truman was the 33rd President of the United States. He was vice president during Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency and he succeeded to the presidency on April 12, 1945, when President Roosevelt died less than three months after beginning his fourth term. During World War I, Truman served as an artillery officer, making him the only president to be in combat in World War I. Truman's presidency involved with the World War II and he decided to use nuclear weapons against Japan, he was involved with the United Nations, the Marshall Plan, the Truman Doctrine, the Cold War, the Berlin Airlift, the creation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Chinese Civil War, and the Korean War. He made the fair deal that dealt with the national health insurance, a minimum wage increase, and it extended many new deal programs. The Berlin airlift delivered food and other supplies, such as coal, using military airplanes on a massive scale.
